Disgrace.

 

The Rena caption has been charged and carries a penalty of up to a year imprisonment or a fine up to $10,000, and the shipping company insurance only has cover up to 11 million dollars. Looks like the tax payer (You & Me) will have to cover the rest and the Captain may get away with a fine to the value of a cheap car. Rumor has it he was trying to beat another container ship into port.

FRIDAY.

Our worst nightmare has come true.

After following the news every morning on the container ship that has lodged itself on top of the Astrolabe reef four miles north west of Motiti Island our worst nightmares have come true. It's now leaking Oil.

I have spent hundreds of hours live baiting around this reef for marlin and have seen some beautiful fish come from that exact spot. Lets hope this is cleaned up ASAP.
